High-Gossypol Whole Cottonseed Exhibited Mediocre Rumen Degradability and Less Microbial Fermentation Efficiency than Cottonseed Hull and Cottonseed Meal with an In Vitro Gas Production Technique

چکیده

To explore whether or not the gossypol varied in cottonseed by-products affect rumen degradability and fermentation efficiency, an vitro cumulative gas production experiment was applied with mixed microorganism to compare characteristics of whole (WCS, n = 3 samples), meal (CSM, hull (CSH, 2 samples). The five-replicate per sample incubation time continuously lasted for 0.5, 1.5, 3, 6, 12, 24, 36, 48 h automated recording system. Regardless distinct nutrient differences, free level these ranked: WCS > CSH CSM. After incubation, dry matter ammonia N concentration ranked as: CSM CSH. total volatile fatty acid (VFA) levels culture fluids WCS, which average rate Regarding molar VFA pattern, comparison presented lowest non-glucogenic acids (e.g., acetate) exhibited highest efficiency energy from carbohydrates VFAs. There a significant negative correlation between content production, suggesting that greater by-products, more detrimental effect occurred fermentation. In brief, mediocre less microbial than CSM, depending on their levels.

Gossypol Toxicity from Cottonseed Products

Gossypol is a phenolic compound produced by pigment glands in cotton stems, leaves, seeds, and flower buds (Gossypium spp.). Cottonseed meal is a by-product of cotton that is used for animal feeding because it is rich in oil and proteins. However, gossypol toxicity limits cottonseed use in animal feed. High concentrations of free gossypol may be responsible for acute clinical signs of gossypol ...

Metabolisable Energy, In situ Rumen Degradation and In vitro Fermentation Characteristics of Linted Cottonseed Hulls, Delinted Cottonseed Hulls and Cottonseed Linter Residue

Dietary supplementation with conventional linted cottonseed hulls (LCSH) is a common practice in livestock production all over the world. However, supplementation with mechanically delinted cottonseed hulls (DCSH) and cottonseed linter residue (CLR) is uncommon. Cottonseed by-products, including LCSH, DCSH and CLR, were assessed by chemical analysis, an in situ nylon bag technique, an in vitro ...

Cottonseed meal | Feedipedia

Mechanical extraction: this traditional method of cottonseed oil extraction uses a circular mortar (called ghani in India, Achaya, 1993) or more advanced technology, such as a hydraulic press or a screw press (expeller). The cotton seeds may be dehulled, cracked, dried or heated before being fed to the press. The resulting cake is dried, ground and then processed into large pellets (Ash, 1992)....

Fermentation of cottonseed and other feedstuffs in cattle rumen fluid.

Bovine rumen fluid was fermented anaerobically over 48 h with cottonseed, corn, alfalfa, or a mixture of these substrates in anaerobic mineral buffer. Samples taken at different incubation times were derivatized with n-butanol and subjected to gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy. No unusual fermentation end-products from the cottonseed substrate were detected. Cottonseed supported rumen fe...
